Admission and enrollment
- Let us know whether or not you plan to enroll at VCU. To hold your space in the upcoming class, you must submit a nonrefundable tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions. The tuition deposit is $100 for undergraduate programs other than those in the School of the Arts and $300 for School of the Arts undergraduate programs. You must pay your deposit before signing up for New Student Orientation or registering for classes.
You can pay your tuition deposit online by credit card. Follow these instructions for submitting your tuition deposit online . If you’re receiving a scholarship or financial aid, you can request a waiver of your tuition deposit. You can download the Response form or find it located in the front of your Accepted Student Handbook. Complete the form and return it to the Office of Admissions along with the appropriate documentation to support your request to waive the tuition deposit. Please be sure to send it to us by the May 1 deadline to ensure your space in our freshman class. - Review your Certificate of Admission and notify the Office of Admissions of any changes.
- Request final transcripts from your high school guidance counselor or your college registrar’s office. Need the form?
- Activate your VCU eID and email account. You must obtain your eID before you can make a reservation to attend New Student Orientation, apply for housing or access your VCU email account. To get your VCU eID, visit http://go.vcu.edu/eidfinder. You can set up your VCU email account at http://mymail.vcu.edu.
- Review the guidelines for changing your major, as well as the requirements and prerequisites of the program that you wish to enter.
- Start a file of personal copies of important college documents, including your letter of acceptance, Certificate of Admission, financial aid forms, housing application and contract, immunization certification, and other VCU correspondence.
Orientation and class registration
- Sign up for New Student Orientation. A nonrefundable orientation fee is required.
- Complete and send your Certificate of Immunization to University Student Health Services. Need the form?
- Meet with your academic adviser and register for classes at New Student Orientation.
- Remember to sign up for at least 15 credits per semester in order to graduate in four years.
- Apply for financial aid by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid by the March 1 priority filing date.
- Check your VCU email account for award information, required documents to complete your file and additional information.
- Sign up for SALT at https://www.saltmoney.org/register/ to track and plan your student loans, get personalized guidance about loans, and find scholarships, internships and jobs.
Tuition, fees and other expenses
- Pay your tuition, fees, room and board by the date specified on your bill. Your bill will be sent to your VCU email account.
- Send scholarship third-party sponsor checks and billing authorizations to VCU Student Accounting.
- When determining tuition and fee costs, include any special fees related to your courses and major.
- Plan a budget for extra expenses such as entertainment and extracurricular activities.
- Apply online for on-campus housing. Note that room assignments are made based on the date the housing application is completed, not according to the date you were accepted to VCU. Or contact VCU Off-Campus Housing Service for assistance in finding an apartment near campus.
- Register your bike with the VCU Police Department.
- Sign up to receive text message alerts on your cell phone notifying you of campus emergencies.
- Purchase a dining plan (required for most undergraduate students living on campus).
- Plan for alternate insurance coverage through either your family or a university-sponsored program.
- Contact the VCU Office of Disability Support Services to request any necessary accommodations.
